History is preserved in many different ways but among them all none beats the idea of keeping a scrap book. Scrap books are special types of albums that hold photos, pictures and even emotions through the comments that are attached to the album pages along side the photos. The comments will always help you to infer what a persons inner feelings are.

Hypomnemata was one such book that was a common occurrence in Greece in days gone. It was like a handwritten note book that was used to record a persons thoughts and expressions an even in other cases their speech. This emerged soon after the discovery of the printer and the contents of the note book were transferred to the printed form. The scrap booking that we today know of has its origin in these humble beginnings.

Scrap booking now is not only a pass time hobby but has gone as far as becoming a booming commercial activity. It is an activity that both the young alike are engaging in and are becoming addicted to such that there are even special commercial rooms that have been set apart purposely for scrap booking.

Getting Literal With Scrapbooking

After several scrapbook pages, ideas can become a scarce commodity. It is just human nature that after several creative spells, everyone hits a dry spell! There are many ways around this dry spot so that can get scrappers going again making beautifully arranged pages once again. Getting ideas from others, online and from magazines are some of the best ways to get those creative juices flowing again. There are plenty of free sites, information and groups that post their templates, therefore allowing others to draw from their designs. Here are some more tips and ideas to help get back into the swing of creative scrapping.

There are phrases everywhere; in movies, on television, books and in bedtime stories. These phrases can be incorporated in scrapbooking therefore allowing the scrapper to take the phrases literally. For example, what about the famous children’s story with the yellow brick road, how about designing the yellow brick road for a time line or photos of a journey within a person’s life. As many parents would agree, there are many milestones that could be documented in this manner, making the phrase a great incorporation. Others such as the “there’s no place like home”, “Rub A Dub, Three Men in the Tub” or “Rock A Bye Baby” also make great themed catch phrases.

Other fresh ideas may include the use of alternative materials such as broken pieces of jewelry, fabric scraps, cut outs of magazines or using song titles. Older pieces of newspaper or magazines can also be used to create a memorial to past relatives or friends, creating a more “antique” look. There are a number of creations that can be documented through scrapbooking; it just takes a little time and energy!
